Google has announced its September Android feature update, bringing several new features designed to make Android phones more useful, accessible and personalized. The latest Android Drop focuses heavily on Gemini, while also introducing improvements to Find Hub and Google Messages.
Here are the major changes coming to Android users.
Gemini Can Remember Where You Put Things
One of the most practical additions is a new feature that lets Gemini remember where you left important belongings.
For example, you can tell Gemini that you placed your passport in a particular drawer and even add a photo for additional context. Later, you can ask Gemini where you kept the item instead of trying to remember it yourself.
These saved locations appear in a new Remembered section inside Find Hub. The feature is aimed at items that don't have their own tracking tags and is rolling out to supported devices running Android 16 or newer.
Motion Assist Aims to Reduce Motion Sickness
Google is also introducing Motion Assist, a feature designed to make using your phone while travelling more comfortable.
The feature displays animated visual cues on the screen that respond to the movement of a car, bus or train. The idea is to reduce the mismatch between what your eyes see on the screen and what your body feels while the vehicle is moving, potentially helping reduce motion sickness.
Motion Assist is coming to devices running Android 17.
Gemini Live Gets Guided Vision
Gemini Live is gaining a new accessibility feature called Guided Vision.
It uses the phone's camera along with Gemini's AI capabilities to provide spoken descriptions of what is around the user. It can help with tasks such as identifying objects, reading small text or getting guidance about how to position the camera.
The feature could be particularly useful for people who are blind or have low vision, although it can also be useful whenever someone needs hands-free visual assistance. Google says Guided Vision will be available on supported Android devices where Gemini is offered.
Google Keep Comes to Google Messages
Planning something with friends or family is also becoming easier. Google is integrating Google Keep directly into Google Messages.
Users can create and collaborate on Keep notes from within a conversation. This could be useful for creating shared shopping lists, planning trips or keeping track of tasks without constantly switching between apps.
More Personal Google Messages Chats
Google Messages is also getting Chat Themes, giving users more ways to customize individual conversations.
Users can choose different backgrounds and colors for their chats, making conversations feel more personal. The feature adds another layer of customization on top of the existing messaging experience.
A More Helpful Android Experience
Google's September Android Drop is less about one huge operating-system overhaul and more about adding practical improvements across everyday tasks.
Gemini is becoming more deeply connected to Android's existing tools, while features such as Motion Assist and Guided Vision show Google's focus on accessibility and comfort. Meanwhile, the new Messages features make collaboration and personalization easier.
The rollout will vary depending on the device, Android version and region, so not every feature will arrive on every Android phone at the same time.
