EPFO Portal: 8 Things Employees Can Now Do Online

Managing your EPF account doesn’t always have to mean dealing with paperwork or visiting an EPFO office. With the updated EPFO online portal, employees can take care of several PF-related tasks from home.

From activating your UAN to checking your PF balance and submitting withdrawal claims, here are eight things you can do online.

1. Activate your UAN

Your Universal Account Number, or UAN, is the key to accessing most EPF services online.

If your UAN hasn’t been activated yet, you can complete the process using your Aadhaar details and OTP verification. Once activated, you can use your UAN to access various EPFO services.

2. Find your UAN if you have forgotten it

It’s quite common to forget your UAN, especially if you have changed jobs over the years.

The EPFO portal has a facility that allows members to find their UAN using their personal details. This means you don’t necessarily have to contact your previous employer just to get your UAN.

3. Withdraw money from your PF account

One of the most useful features is the ability to submit PF claims online.

Depending on your situation and eligibility, you can apply for:

  • Final PF settlement through Form 19
  • Pension withdrawal benefits through Form 10C
  • Partial PF withdrawal or advances through Form 31

The claim process is completed online and generally involves OTP-based authentication.

4. Check your PF balance

Want to know how much money has accumulated in your EPF account?

You can check your PF passbook online and keep an eye on your contributions and balance. It’s also a good idea to check it from time to time to make sure your employer’s contributions are being credited correctly.

5. Add or update your nominee

Employees can also submit their e-Nomination details online.

Keeping your nominee information updated is important because it can make the process easier for your family to claim eligible PF, pension and insurance benefits if something happens to you.

6. Update your KYC details

The EPFO portal also allows members to manage important KYC information.

Details such as Aadhaar, PAN and bank account information can be updated online, subject to EPFO requirements. Keeping these details correct can help prevent delays when you need to make a claim.

7. Transfer your PF when you change jobs

Changing jobs doesn’t necessarily mean you have to leave your old PF balance behind.

Eligible employees can use the online EPFO facility to transfer their accumulated PF balance from their previous employer’s account to their current one.

This makes it easier to keep your retirement savings together in one place.

8. Submit claims in case of a member’s death

The EPFO system also provides online facilities for eligible family members and nominees to submit claims after the death of an EPF member.

This is another reason why employees should keep their nominee and KYC details updated while they are still working.

Keep your details updated

Before using many of these services, make sure your UAN is active and your Aadhaar, bank account and other required details are correctly linked with your EPF account.

Keeping your information updated may save you from unnecessary delays when you actually need to withdraw or transfer your PF money.

With more EPFO services moving online, employees can now handle many routine PF-related tasks without having to visit an office.
